This isn't a new issue, I actually noticed this about 2-ish months ago. I know my PSU makes a constant buzzing sound regardless of load, probably coil whine, but it also makes a feint buzzing even when powered off. Now I've read this is normal because power is still going into the PSU, but should it be doing it even when the switch is turned off? It only stops if I unplug the power cable.
It's an RM750x btw.

It also creates a fake buzzing sound even when the device is off. The term "feint" refers to this behavior, though it's not typical. You may want to record a video with audio of the noise and send it for review. I've learned that power still flows into the PSU, but it shouldn't continue when the switch is off. In reality, this only stops if I disconnect the power cable. I'm guessing your wall outlet or wiring is faulty.

By feint I mean it's much quieter when activated. To be honest, I doubt I could even capture it. I've tried before, but my old phone isn't very sensitive to it, though I might give it another go.

Hi there! I've been thinking about this for a while now. My RM750x has noticeable coil whine, especially when it's running quietly but still producing a faint hum when the rear switch is off. I'm not sure if it's normal, but I've read that some capacitors can cause this issue. It hasn't affected my setup since I built the PC about five months ago, but it's been on my mind. I tried draining the power supply to check for residual energy, but it didn't help. Any thoughts? Your feedback would be really appreciated.

I misunderstood. I believed I had removed this thread a long time ago, but it seems it’s still here.

It could make sense to add a video with audio of the buzzing you mentioned. Demonstrating how you shut down the system and turn off the wall outlet would support your description.

When sharing specifications, consider including: CPU, CPU cooler, motherboard, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, PSU, chassis, OS, monitor. Also note the age of the PSU along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.

You might also try using a sheet of A4 paper, rolling it into a cylinder and holding one end to your ear, then the other to locate the sound source.

Whether you’ve consulted an electrician before is uncertain, as many homes have outdated wiring and aging systems.

I can't get the sound because it's really quiet. I didn't bring in an electrician, but I'm almost sure it's not a wiring problem. Here are my details:
Ryzen 5 5600x
B550 Tomahawk
DDR4 Teamgroup Ram 32GB
500GB SSD + 4TB HDD
Zotac RTX 3060 Dual Edge 12GB
Coolermaster HAF 932 Advanced (old case I reused)
Windows 11
Two monitors, Samsung and Insignia
I used a tube of toilet paper long ago and checked it's coming from the power supply. Is there really no chance it could be something simple?

I didn't mention the age of the PSU. It seems you're 99% sure it's not a wiring problem. That suggests you checked to confirm the wiring isn't damaged. Is there really no other explanation for it?

It has been running since I installed the PC, roughly five months ago. This has been consistent from the beginning.
