The setup includes a Corsair RM650 PSU with an ATX design, modular layout, 80 Plus Gold certification, and 650 watts. It pairs with an RM series Msi Mpg B550 Gaming Plus Atx motherboard and Crucial Ballistix BL2K8G36C16U4BL RGB with RGB lighting at 3600 MHz. The system uses DDR4 RAM with 16GB (8GB doubled) and supports AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, a Crucial P5 1 TB SSD, and a Be Quiet! BK022 fan. For graphics, it features an MSI GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING Z TRIO 10G LHR card with 1830MHz, PCIe Gen4, and various interfaces. The configuration was updated to BIOS version 7C56v15, which initially worked but later caused the power supply fan to stop after a short delay. LEDs illuminated briefly before shutting off, and the motherboard remained completely off. RAM was removed temporarily, CPU was taken out, and storage was checked behind the headshot area. No bent pins were found, and the GPU’s 3-8 pin configuration was followed carefully. The 24-pin connector fit snugly but stuck, possibly due to improper connection. The motherboard update was intended for the Ryzen 5000 series. Without it, the system couldn't read the CPU properly, which caused the PC to malfunction until recently. After saving up parts for a year, installing the GPU finally completed the build. When I connected all components on the motherboard, the PSU failed to supply power, resulting in no lights and no response. However, pressing the flash BIOS button activated the red light, suggesting the board might still be functional. The PSU also started working when the button was pressed.

The motherboard update was intended for the Ryzen 5000 series. Without it, the system couldn't read the CPU properly, which caused the PC to malfunction until recently. After saving up parts for a year, installing the GPU finally completed the build. When I connected all components on the motherboard, the PSU failed to supply power, resulting in no lights and no response. However, pressing the flash BIOS button activated the red light, suggesting the board might still be functional. The PSU also started working when the button was pressed.

Not all of them will stay lit at once. Without a GPU, one should activate if the motherboard recognizes a CPU and has power—typically. The color should be red, orange, green, or white. Keep in mind these lights may flicker briefly, so check them immediately after pressing the power button. Record which ones turned on and whether they remained active. If the lights switch colors frequently, wait until they stabilize, then observe the final color. Once you note the behavior and the persistent light, you can safely shut down the system. Note: The PSU fan usually stays off by default; modern units often lack rotation unless overheating occurs.

Your CPU will draw about 69-190 Watts, the GPU up to 370 Watts, and the CPU cooler up to 250 Watts. That’s roughly 739-960 Watts total needed without other parts. Normally these components don’t require their maximum power, but it’s possible you’re running out of capacity. You might also want to reapply thermal paste even if it looks fine, and ensure you have sufficient PSU cables for your GPU—use all three ports if possible. Consider switching to a different 650W or a higher wattage PSU. Edit: Verify every connection from the PSU to the motherboard and other parts; loose connections can cause similar issues.

I disagree with this. The pc never fully worked. There is no evidence the PSU is dead and there would be no reason it would be dead. Those components would not have killed it that easily since it never fully worked. Could it be DoA? Maybe, but that doesn't line up with the symptoms he is describing. Modern PSUs are designed to be used at their capacity. That is why OCP and OPP don't kick in until 130% or so. Those components, in their current state, would draw like 550watts. But I can promise if the PC never got into windows, it never even got close to that. Until we know if the debug leds work and what they say, we don't have anything to point to. If I had to guess, it sounds like a bricked board from the bios update. As for @RandomGuy64 , take the battery out of the motherboard, located near the middle of it. Unplug or turn off the PSU, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Put the battery back in and turn it on. If it still does not work. Download the newest bios for the board, 7C56v19, and install that using the dedicated USB port and a flash drive, like I assume you did originally. It should try to install the bios. DO NOT TURN IT OFF. Turning it off during a firmware update could permanently brick the board. If it does install, I think it is possible it will work after that. Didn't realize originally the bios update you installed in multiple updates outdated. The newest bios should work by itself, it does not have to be updated to another version before you can install it.

Thanks a lot for your time. Following the suggestion from a friend, I updated the motherboard BIOS to version 15->16->17->18->19. Everything worked smoothly as expected. The CPU turned white, the bottom background color activated, and everything ended successfully—except the red LED near the ports which turned off. The motherboard only shows the red LED when you press the flash BIOS button, and no debug lights are illuminated. The pins are all securely connected; I’m unsure if something is wrong with the PSU connections but the cables on the RM650 are correctly positioned (left to right: CPU 8-pin, then GPU 2x 8-pins). The PSU comes with two GPU cables—one 8-pin and another split into 2x6+2 pins. One cable is fully plugged while the other has one plugged in and one loose. This 3080 model has three 8-pin ports all connected as described. I also checked after removing the battery; the result was the same. I plan to replace the PSU soon due to power requirements, but it should function fine under normal loads.
