My PS4 isn't updating from 11.02 to 12.02. I've attempted to rebuild the system in safe mode but it didn't resolve the issue. The console loads normally but keeps asking for an update, and when I try to download it, I get a failure with code SU-42118-6. I tried backing up my data on an external drive, but I'm hesitant to wipe the PS4 again. Please help me out.

I understand issues with a PS3 linked to a faulty Wi-Fi card. It attempts an update but fails due to the weak connection. I previously replaced the card in another PS3, which resolved the problem permanently. In this situation, you might need to open the unit to swap it for a better one—this could be the root cause. You can search online using your PS4 error code to see if similar issues exist with yours; it’s possible but worth checking.

I discovered the Blu-ray cable isn’t working properly, preventing my PS4 from updating. I’m placing an order for a replacement but appreciate your assistance.

You managed to locate the issue, that's all that matters.

Yes, if the system can't identify the hardware it can't apply the update. Whether it's updating firmware in a component or adjusting its settings, the device must recognize these parts. I'm counting on everything working smoothly once you install the new cable.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but yes, it functioned properly at first. Now the disc drive isn’t accepting discs or ejecting them, though it can read them if you manually move the stuck disc screw to pull it in and out.
