Hello, I understand you're facing some challenges with your new build. It sounds like you're dealing with overheating issues even after adjustments. Since you've tried several fixes—upgrading components, using thermal paste, installing an air cooler, and undervolting—yet the temperatures remain high, it might be worth double-checking a few things. Have you confirmed the correct specifications for your MSI AIO model? Also, consider verifying that your cooling system is properly seated and not obstructed. If you're unsure about any step, reaching out to MSI support or a trusted community forum could provide clarity. You're doing the right thing by seeking help, and I hope this resolves the issue soon. Thank you for your patience.
It's the defective AIO with no concerns about it. Likely the issue was less visible because the CPU wasn't among the stronger models that stay cooler. The 5900X and 5800X3D are the hottest AM4 CPUs, coming after the 5950X, 3950X, 3900X, and 5800X. If you need an air cooler until the MSI warranty is fixed, consider the Thermalright Peerless Assassin.
Thanks for the update. The AIO works well with a 3600 CPU, but the temperature stayed elevated. You mentioned locking it at 4.4 and 1.4V—do you think they can be adjusted soon? Regarding the air cooler, it seems adequate for light tasks, though I’m not sure if a smaller cooler is necessary. A video showed someone using a stock Wraith cooler on a 5900X and it performed okay. Just concerned that swapping the AIO might not solve the issue without proper guidance.
A few months old yet from the problematic batch? That must have lingered in storage for a long time. The buildup doesn’t increase with use—it happens even more quickly without proper care. The 5900X isn’t included with a cooler since AMD doesn’t offer a sufficiently robust one, and the box cooler that comes with the 3600 is the least powerful AM4 model (Wraith Stealth). I’ve got both of those CPUs. If the strongest AM4 cooler (Wraith Prism) existed, it would keep the CPU running smoothly under load.
Based on the replays, the cooler was installed correctly using the first one available. You applied the paste properly and secured the block carefully, alternating sides. The Coreliquid model only has two mounting screws. Regarding four-screw coolers—no clear impact mentioned. You might consider replacing it once you receive the new unit and switch to a different model if needed, but you're saving money right now.
I understand the concern about the cooling performance. The difference between coolers mounted on the stock bracket versus those with four mounting spots can affect airflow and efficiency.
