I recently purchased a 7.1 surround headset and on Windows it displays it as a speaker. I connected it using a USB cable, but Windows still identifies it as a speaker. The configuration settings only show stereo channels, not a surround sound setup. There is no dedicated app or program linked to this device for control. What should I do?

I needed to update the name from Speakers to Headset on my PC. This is merely a label and doesn't affect the audio quality.

It's disappointing to inform you that your 7.1 setup is only simulated through the small USB DAC. You should expect to experience surround sound in your games.

i5 10400f with gtx 1660ti, 16gb ram, running windows 10 pro with latest update. I received the tronsmart glary gaming headset and didn't install any audio software except for the latest windows update; it's already detected in device manager.

yes but why it displays as a speaker and not headphones icon, with the speakers listed in the bottom right corner and the sound settings visible.

I think the problem might be with the drivers. Your headset shows "headset" and "virtual surround," which could mean you have mismatched drivers. Also, your Windows installation might be corrupted—fixing it by reformatting and reinstalling could help. Sorry, that's all I can do at the moment.

I also checked the website for your headset, but when I tried to download the software to inspect the package, it claims it can't be downloaded securely. It seems like you might not want to work with this company.
My HyperX Cloud II is working perfectly and displays correctly. I wouldn't trust a company with an insecure website—you can't rely on their software.
I would try them on a functional PC to see if it still shows speakers; maybe the issue is just with their software.

Thanks for your help, but would it sound better if it mentioned headset or it doesn't matter—it's just a name since Windows lets you change the name?
