Did you verify the CPU stays adequately cooled? Thermal throttling rarely reduces clock speeds in this manner, though it’s conceivable.

Thanks for your quick reply, but yes, you're likely correct. I haven't updated the thermal paste yet after getting this laptop, which is 11 years old. Lol

I'm limited on what I can say because it's a laptop, but I've checked the CPU usage and it seems to be heating up much more recently than four months ago.
