Hello. I’ve been playing a relaxed game recently and my computer froze. The alt-f4 didn’t help and the power button on the case didn’t work either. I pressed it for a minute but got nothing, so I cut power from the supply. When I tried to turn it on again, it restarted and then shut down without a splash screen. Debug lights on the motherboard suggest CPU or RAM issues, though the board itself seems fine—power and fans are working, keyboard is responsive, monitor goes into standby mode. My specs include a Ryzen 9 5900X, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 2x16GB, B650M-HDV/M.2 board, Samsung 990 Pro SSD, ASUS RX 9070 X, and Beats! Pure Power 12M 850W ATX power supply, black with 20+4 pins. I reset the CMOS but only adjusted fan behavior. Tried re-seating cables, used the built-in GPU, swapped RAM locations, and even tried one RAM stick at a time. I suspect the problem might be with the CPU, but I can’t test it yet. I’m considering ordering a replacement now, but I’m unsure. All parts have warranties, and I was thinking about sending my CPU back for an exchange. Thanks for any advice. Apologies—I sent this through a touchscreen and accidentally submitted it early.

The system responded with a series of technical queries about the action taken and its effects. It asked about the outcome after pressing alt-f4, whether the computer remains operational, and if it starts up properly.

It works when you press alt-F4, so it isn't broken. Have you run a GPU-heavy test like the 3DMark Stress Steel Nomad benchmark?

Hello. I'm sorry for the oversight. I've been using this platform for nearly a year now. I played every game and completed all the performance tests when the system was installed, but I didn't perform any overclocking. I only activated the AMD-specific RAM XMP feature.

Use only one stick of RAM from the slot suggested in your motherboard manual. If it still doesn’t work, switch to the other stick in the same slot. If one functions and the other doesn’t → the stick is faulty. If neither fits properly in the main slot, test them in another slot. Borrowing a different DDR5 kit, even a budget option, is the quickest way to verify. Also, reset CMOS again—don’t just use jumper wires. Confirm the 8-pin CPU connector is fully seated. Ensure your BIOS is current for Ryzen 9600X compatibility. If the system boots with various RAM, it’s likely your hardware. If not, next possible issues are motherboard or power supply, but the CPU is usually the first to fail. Don’t send the CPU back yet; rule out RAM first, as that’s the most common cause in such cases.

Hello. I tried removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes but didn’t see any improvement. Testing with my friends’ system didn’t help either. I’ve reattached all the power cables, yet nothing changed. The BIOS still recognizes my CPU because I’ve been using this setup for a year. Since I purchased both the CPU and motherboard from the same store, could it be possible to send these components together? I don’t have the resources to test them separately. EDIT: Just to confirm, I’ve checked one of my own memory sticks in a friend’s PC and it worked fine. That suggests the motherboard might be faulty, as MB is incorrectly identifying the memory.

Hey, it seems both the CPU and the motherboard are damaged.
