So, as the title, says, my CPU (R5 3600) won't stop boosting. It's not thermal throttling or causing me issues at all, but I'm still curious as to what's causing it. So, yesterday I opened task manager to close Chrome because it wasn't responding, and I noticed that my CPU was running at 3.9 GHz (it's never been able to boost up to 4.2 without stability issues), as opposed to it's base 3.6. It's not overclocked, and yet it was still boosting, even after 3 days of uptime. I restarted it, and it was still boosting. I left it over night, guess what? Still boosting. As I said it hasn't caused me any problems and is perfectly stable, but I was wondering what was causing it and if this will affect it's lifespan. Edit: My motherboard is an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

my new 5600X behaves consistently, always maintaining a 4.0 or higher clock speed. I was just thinking it might be normal. There are no problems with the system overall, everything runs smoothly, but I haven’t noticed it ever dropping to its base clock of 3.7.

It's interesting how it can switch to its base clock, though I'm not sure when that stopped. It's nice to know this might be the standard for AMD chips.

It runs most of the time above the 3.6GHz base clock. That’s the normal behavior of Precision Boost 2. It only slows down when the system is completely idle.

Are you using the performance plan or the balanced plan? The balanced plan lets the CPU stay active when not in use, while the performance plan maintains higher power levels.

To test, set the processor power state to at least 85% and up to 100%, and use the Windows balanced power plan. Check if this resolves the issue.

Advanced power settings let you adjust the processor's minimum state to 5% or 1%. This often results in the CPU slowing down when idle. The actual reduction in clock speed differs, but typically stays under 2 GHz.
