The processor is getting quite warm now, could this affect its performance over time?
Hey there, I recently assembled a PC for a friend using the Ryzen 5 7600X. Because of stock shortages, I opted for the NZXT T120 Air cooler. It includes one fan, but I added an extra one since the unit supports it. I thought it would be sufficient to manage the CPU, given that the case comes with large intake fans (Lanckair 217). However, temperatures are actually higher than expected. The CPU stays around 50–55°C when idle, but climbs up to 95°C during full load. After some undervolting, I was able to lower peak temps to about 90°C. Still, during intense tasks like After Effects rendering or heavy workloads, the CPU runs at full capacity for several minutes at a time. My worry is whether these temperatures could pose any long-term risks. My friend mainly plays games and edits videos, so it’s not a daily intensive setup. I intend to switch to an all-in-one cooler later. This air cooler was just a stopgap because local options were limited and prices were high. Thanks in advance!
Hey, thanks for the reply! I'm using the LIAN LI LANCOOL 217X case with the stock fans it comes with, which are two 240mm intake fans at the front, one 120mm intake fan mounted at the bottom, and a single 120mm exhaust fan at the rear. Do you think this setup might be causing negative air pressure since there's only one exhaust fan? The airflow seems fine overall, especially since the GPU stays under 65°C even under full load. I'll attach a picture of the case for reference.
Ensure you have sufficient thermal paste applied; otherwise, it might not be the main issue. Consider using fan control software for better performance.
Replace the CPU cooler. Clean thoroughly before reapplying paste. If you just installed it, use a dry cloth—no alcohol needed. Form a smooth area in the center and secure the cooler firmly. Tighten each screw slightly in an X-shape.
Thanks for the update. I've already replaced the CPU and adjusted the fan settings in the BIOS. The room temperature is currently about 30°C, which might be affecting the heat levels. I'm planning to try a different thermal paste next time instead of the one that came with the cooler.
Sure, adding three more exhaust fans at the top should help improve airflow.
Glad to hear it! I'll install the CPU using a high-quality thermal paste this time. Appreciate the clear guidance!
