I've changed from Intel to AMD recently and observed a longer startup. The current machine is an Asus TUF X670E-PLUS with 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz. After turning it on, it takes roughly 30-40 seconds to reach the TUF logo (pressing DEL will get you into BIOS) and around 50-60 seconds to boot Windows. On my previous setup (ASUS TUF Z590-PLUS with 10700KF, 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz), it was about 5 seconds to the logo and 25-30 seconds to Windows. This delay seems unusual for AMD systems; there might be a BIOS setting affecting POST time that I haven't noticed yet. The operating system remains unchanged, though it doesn't impact the startup duration.

It's not secret, it's Memory Context Restore. This feature bypasses memory training, cutting the usual 30-second POST time down to around 10 seconds. ASRock and Gigabyte boards include this option by default, while MSI and ASUS don't. In practice, this setting might lead to boot problems—your system won't power back up until you disable it and wait a few minutes. But if you're using a BIOS from the last year, the chances of encountering this are minimal.

DDR5 training on AM5 requires 45 seconds. Activating Memory Context Restore in BIOS can help accelerate the process.

They assumed this was okay somehow. Next-gen Ryzen might take over 20 minutes to boot? AMD admitted they couldn't decide. Spoiler: I'm relieved I'm not there next time.

It seems like this design choice might be a workaround created by chipmakers. Why don’t they adopt the same approach for AM4, which starts slow but then speeds up to normal performance?

It seems regular memory exercises each time the system starts improve performance, even though I’m not a hardware specialist. I’m sure you can disable memory training at startup using the Memory Context restore feature.

I switched the Memory Context Restore to Disabled, not Auto. It seems the issue was resolved quickly—under ten seconds for the POST time. Thanks!
