Hi, I have an RTX 4080, an R7 7800X3D, 32 GB of 6000 MHz CL30, and a 980 PRO. Windows 11 is installed. I'm seeing stuttering in FF XIV, similar to my older Windows 10 build, but less frequent. I found a solution before: in Task Manager, change the priority of (ffxiv_dx11.exe) from normal to high. I tried applying the same change again, but the priority always reverts back to normal when the game becomes active. When I press Alt+Tab, it switches back to high. It's hard to keep the game running while setting the priority at the same time. I'm avoiding third-party tools, but I need a way to prevent this reset behavior. Also, any other tips you have? This PC seems prone to stuttering during games. Thanks!
I've been using FFXIV for years across various platforms without any stutter issues. It's possible another program you've installed is causing the problem. Could you give more details about when it happens and how often?
Thank you for your reply. There doesn't seem to be any cause regarding my in game actions, it can happen pretty much anytime i would say. Stutter might not be the good term. It's like, once in 30 minutes i'd say (it doesn't seem regular tho), it'll just skip some frames and thus generate a "micro-freeze". I'm running a g-sync compatible monitor at 165 Hz. I'm playing at 1440p, in full screen. While the game runs, i usually have firefox, discord, and msi afterburner opened just monitoring things. Edited December 8, 2023 by SephiRock
Occasionally something occurs that's tough to identify. If you have a second monitor, keep Task Manager open and sort it by highest CPU usage at the top. When you experience that freeze, check if anything else is running at the same time. Unless the whole system stops completely, you might miss it.
I've just explored a quick dungeon and think I found one. As soon as I noticed, I looked at the Task Manager and saw nothing unusual—no sudden spike in process usage.
