So here's the situation: I have my PC which has Ryzen 5 2600 on MSI Tomahawk B450. My friend bought a Ryzen 5 5600 and MSI Tomahawk b450 max ii I updated the bios on his mobo to the version that is compatible with Ryzen 5000 series and it didn't work. No POST at all. Then I tried replacing his CPU with mine and it didn't work either, but when I tried to put my CPU back into my PC it didn't work as well. There was no POST in any situation. Did his mobo maybe kill our CPUs? Or what else could it be? Please help me
The likelihood of a short circuit occurring is low given the described circumstances. The situation seems unlikely due to the age and compactness of the case, which reduces the chance of physical damage affecting the components.
When dealing with a smaller case and the appropriate surface, it's likely it could short-circuit, though I wouldn't be certain until I verify the CMOS, power supply, and motherboard connections. It's also possible both of your motherboards might be faulty, but that seems unlikely. I faced a similar situation where a CMOS reset was necessary.
