The heads must be cleaned. The instructions are provided in the manual. What appears in your example photo is what occurs when the printer isn't used regularly. The tiny nozzles inside the heads become blocked by dried ink.

Another potential reason could be the nearly empty ink cartridges, which occasionally leads to banding in your photos.
