Initially, I wanted to mention that my computer was connected to a surge protector during this incident. According to the title, there was a power spike in my neighborhood on Christmas morning while my PC was running. After some time, I tried to start it, but it kept failing repeatedly. The issue turned out to be a cord connected to the front of my PC, with nothing plugged into the other end. Once I removed that cord, everything appeared to work properly.

Once my PC was operational for a short while, I observed an unusual sound coming from it. Examining the side of the case revealed that the CPU fan was behaving erratically—spinning rapidly for half a second, moving extremely slowly, or not spinning at all. I suspected this might be related to a power supply problem, though I thought upgrading my GPU soon would minimize concerns. However, there were additional signs.

After a period of inactivity, I decided to browse YouTube or do something else. Out of boredom, I launched FL Studio and started working on a project. I noticed that whenever I tried to open a plugin or click on a sound in the program’s built-in file browser, the software would either freeze temporarily or crash entirely. I realized these issues likely stemmed from plugins and sounds stored on my hard drive. I opened Task Manager in the processes section, and it showed my E drive at 100% active time. I also discovered that Windows was not installed on this drive.

After some research, I downloaded CrystalDiskInfo, which displayed a yellow warning box for my hard drive. The "damaged" indicators were: Reallocated Sectors Count, Current Pending Sector Count, and Uncorrectable Sector Count. Admitting I’m not very tech-savvy (otherwise this post wouldn’t be necessary), I wasn’t sure what these meant. I wanted to know if anyone could explain what was wrong or if all my components were faulty, so I could identify what needed replacement. There might be more issues, but that’s all I’ve observed so far.
