I have two computers and the power source in one failed, so I moved the working PSU to the one with the issue. The unit I transferred is a Thermaltake 850W 80+Gold and I verified it beforehand. After moving it, I connected all the necessary cables, powered it on, but... nothing happened. No lights on the PSU or motherboard—usually the motherboard lights up even when off as long as power is present. No fans, not even the PSU fan. I double-checked all connections, used a different power cable, tried another socket and still got no response. Please help. Updated January 9, 2023 by DrSteinein Additional information found

Determine which unit failed or was swapped. Identify the alternative PSU model. For modular units, also verify compatible cables. Use only those supplied with the original PSU.

I didn't change the cables since the faulty PSU was a Thermaltake 1200W, assuming it was the same brand. The 850W model is a robust power supply, while the original 1200W was a GF1. Could swapping the cables still resolve the issue? I’ll likely try it anyway because I might not have other options.

They don't always use identical cables even within the same brand. Different models often require various cables. If the issue isn't the cables, it might mean some parts were included when the power supply failed.

Thank you a lot. I plan to switch the cables tomorrow. I’m hoping the power protection kept everything safe. I’ll let you know once it works.

I'll echo this, and as a note it's also possible that if the PSUs use different cables between them, you may have bigger issues, Motherboard side, the wiring is standardized, but PSU-side it's not. This means if they are wired differently, it's possible say... a 12V line PSU side was now connected to 3.3V or 5V and killed hardware. There's no protecting against that outside of ensuring with certainty that the cables are correct for the PSU @DrSteinein . I recommend looking up the pinout for both PSU outputs if possible. If you can't find it, drop both model numbers and I'll see what I can find.

It seems the fan on the PSU didn’t start spinning, and nothing else occurred. I’m wondering if this indicates no power reached the system and the motherboard remains intact.

the only connection i located was for a toughpower gf1 650w/750w/850w. The faulty power supply was a toughpower gf1 1200w 80+gold. I discovered the pinout on another site for a toughpower grand RGB 850w at https://www.moddiy.com/pages/Thermaltake...inout.html, but there was no info about the dead psu or toughpower gf 850w 80+gold.

It's a Toughpower GF1 with 1200W output, and the Toughpower GF850 is another model in that series.

Don't stress, I changed the cables and it functioned properly. I tested it in a limited setup to verify it before purchasing a new case. That involved a slightly unstable motherboard and a challenging 24-pin removal, but everything turned out fine. Appreciate the assistance!
