The power supply is shutting down during operation, but the fans are not running and the system doesn't start.
I have a H510 with Asus x570 tuf gaming + wifi, 6800xt graphics card and 5900x amd processor. All has functioned properly for less than six months, until yesterday. The system had been running lightly for about ten minutes, then I came back and noticed only the RGB lights were active.
I attempted a reboot, but it just restarts when I press the power button.
Checked the forum and tried jumpstarting, but still no start despite RGB lights being on. The motherboard fans are off and nothing else seems to be working.
I bought a power tester that arrived today, and the power supply appears normal. All connections seem correct on the main 20/24 pin cable and 12v cable for the CPU.
I tried again, disconnecting all cables except the GPU and drives, but only the CPU and 20/24 pin remain and nothing triggers a relay click in the PSU.
The PSU is a Corsair RM850X, so it’s possible the protection circuit is tripping.
I unplugged all cables except the CPU and left it plugged in. Now the power button lights up and doesn’t trip! The computer stays on but nothing happens further.
I’m unsure what to do next—could it still be the power supply under load? Should I purchase a new one (I can’t connect it without plugging it in)?
Is there a chance it’s the motherboard itself, with no visible issues? Could a short in the GPU, CPU, or memory be the cause?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This section indicates that the issue is related to VRM, and there are no other options to resolve it at home.
I understand your point. It's possible the issue isn't limited to the CPU circuit itself, and the power supply unit or other components might be contributing to the problem.
