The power supply is making noises and flashing lights when you switch it on.
I just upgraded my GPU from a RTX 3070 super FE (6x8 pin) to a 6900 XT (3x8 pin). That meant I had to replace my PSU. I switched from a Corsair CX750M to an MSI A750GF. After changing the PSU and GPU, I turned it on and it started making a clicking sound. The lights also flickered. I took everything apart and rebuilt the PC, but it still makes that noise. I tried a trick with a paperclip in the 4 and 5 slot on the 24-pin connector—it worked perfectly. I’m not sure what else to do except ask you all here for help. I’m really stuck. Thank you very much.
The process changes with the PSU; ensure you connect all cables from the MSI and avoid using Corsair ones unless necessary. Always stick to original cables when possible.
I used the previous power supply and it failed to start. I was just enjoying Minecraft when I looked into everything, and it worked fine then. I tried the paperclip method with the Corsair PSU again, and it powered on successfully. After that, I changed all the connections to MSI.
Use the original cables for each power supply unit. They are designed specifically for the PSUs and cannot be swapped. Incorrect cables could damage any part of the system. When testing with a different PSU, update the cables as well. Avoid mixing different cables. Regarding recommendations, an 850-watt PSU is suggested for your graphics card, though it may not fully activate in idle mode.
It seems the PSU is likely damaged. This component often triggers a shutdown once the CPU powers down. It might have activated some protection feature. For the 6900, aim for a minimum of 850 watts as shown on the MSI site.
Removing the GPU from the PCIe slot affects things further. Disconnecting unused components like extra storage or fans can help. Try using only essential items for post-processing; if it works but the screen stays black, there might be an issue. It looks like a short is likely occurring somewhere.
