The performance of my PC is really disappointing me.
I recently put together a new PC for around $450, and I’m struggling with performance. The specs are: AMD A12-9720P processor with Radeon R7 graphics, 1TB HDD, and 4GB of RAM – currently running Windows 10.
I'm seeing an average of 20-30 frames per second in Fortnite (normal matches) on low settings and the smallest resolution, and it’s fluctuating quite a bit. In CS:GO, I’m getting 40-60fps in competitive and casual modes, but around 20-30fps in deathmatch. I've tried all the optimization guides and FPS boost settings, but I’m still experiencing stuttering and low frame rates in Fortnite. I really need some advice on how to improve performance, particularly within Fortnite, but any help with other games would be appreciated too. My drivers are up to date.
You might need a BIOS upgrade to support the 2000 series Ryzens. The 2400g also has integrated graphics. Cooling/heatsink could be an issue; I'm not sure how things are arranged. Honestly, I’d recommend returning it – paying $450 for what you have, plus additional costs to upgrade, isn’t worthwhile. There’s a good deal on this machine: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-des...CWVMAX001H. When you get it to the cart, enter the coupon code SAVE10 and it lowers the price to $476.99 (though sales tax will likely apply depending on your location). Even with the i3 and the 1050Ti, it would be significantly better than what you…
The system has limitations due to its hardware configuration – specifically the 4GB of RAM and the use of an integrated GPU alongside a re-packaged older CPU. While it may not be failing, it’s important to manage expectations regarding performance.
Yeah, I know, seriously? 20 frames per second in Fortnite? Seriously?! My friend has a much worse PC than me, but he’s running at 70fps with no stuttering.
The integrated GPU with a single DIMM will perform poorly; it will steal RAM from the operating system, leading to excessive swapping to the hard drive. To achieve acceptable performance, you'll likely need additional DIMMs and possibly a discrete graphics card.
The issue is likely related to your computer’s performance impacting the frame rate and causing texture stuttering while you play Fortnite. You mentioned adjusting the configuration files and achieving 40-50 FPS, but it's still stuttering due to unoptimized textures. It sounds like a common problem with lower end hardware struggling to handle the game's demands.
Using your hard drive as RAM is going to cause performance issues, especially when running demanding programs like games. With only 1.5-2GB of RAM available, and knowing that 2GB is likely dedicated to Windows and integrated graphics, it’s unlikely you'll be able to play many modern games effectively. A computer with 4GB of RAM combined with a decent GPU would likely provide a better experience.
Regarding your friend’s system, what are its specifications?
