Is this typical?
In CS2 for instance, my fps_max is often 0 (unlimited), so I checked with Afterburner and it seems that 1% lows drop to around 150 while the average is about 240. It really feels and looks poor to play, so I set my fps to 144 (fps_max 144), which now brings the 1% lows down to around 90 (I think I know it was lower before, since earlier it showed ≈150).
If I lock it at 60, the 1% lows drop to about 55.
My expectation was that lowering the setting would make the 1% lows more stable, so if on unlimited fps my 1% lows were around 150, I thought setting fps_max to 144 would ensure smooth performance, but it still drops in the 1% range.
So my question is: is this normal or is there something wrong? I’m just getting started with understanding 1% lows. I believe my Ryzen 3600 is the main culprit here—it’s been acting like a bad piece of hardware for years, and it doesn’t seem to be performing well in competitive games even at low settings, whether it’s CS:GO or Valorant.
Looking at the 5800X3D and similar models, comparing price, I feel this CPU might just be that one.
Even Chrome stutters below 240fps
Or the GPU? Regardless, are those 1% lows behavior typical? Thanks!
