I have my operating system set up on a NVMe M.2 drive that was placed in the first PCIe slot of my mainboard Z390. After disconnecting the PSU cable and reconnecting it, I can no longer start Windows. During BIOS setup, I noticed my PC fails to recognize my NVMe drives or other storage devices like HDDs and SSDs. However, once I moved the M.2 NVMe card to the second PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot, it was detected properly and I could boot into Windows again. When I tried inserting it back into the first slot, it wasn't recognized as before. Could this be related to the PSU cable being disconnected? I made sure to power down the I/O switch on the PSU before removing it. The system is running Windows 11 Pro version 23H2 with all updates applied. The MSI RTX 3090, Corsair Vengeance RGB (32GB), Aorus Master Z390 BIOS F12, and Corsair RXMX 850 are installed.

Yes, you can measure the CMOS battery voltage with a multimeter by connecting the appropriate probes to the power and ground pins of the chip.

CR2032 batteries are inexpensive; just swap the battery and check if the problem resolves. Also, consider buying a basic multimeter—it’s useful for testing batteries, voltage, and conductivity.
