I made a mistake by breaking the PCIe slot while swapping my GPUs. It seems to be a minor issue, but it’s preventing me from starting my PC. The error messages on my X570 Steel Legend board are confusing me.

You applied pressure to it near the motherboard upon breaking. Look for any warped parts in that spot. Usually, it's just a plastic component that secures the card, mainly designed for small transport.

if there are minor marks, it could have been ejected and struck a capacitor or damaged a trace line

it ended up being a tough journey similar to the dodo's fate, especially on the first day. the black plastic was heavy, making it hard to push the GPU out with my finger. once removed, use a soft brush—like the kind used for makeup—to gently sweep the inside of the PCI slot. then carefully reinsert the GPU, ensuring it clicks into place once fully seated. try again and check if it works.

There are only two red lights remaining, the next one will turn on, followed by the three lights switching on and off twice, and eventually just two lights will remain lit.

Make sure you refer to your user manual. I think you should have four lights for CPU, RAM, GPU, and boot status—all four should turn off. Each light that turns off means success. Without more details, it's hard to tell which ones are still lit. We can assume the boot light is on and the GPU light is active, but that’s just an assumption. A broken plastic clip shouldn’t damage a reinforced PCI slot, especially the one on your motherboard.

They don't appear in the manual. The documentation lists components from CMOS battery to the back of the case, CPU DRAM, VGA, and boot settings. Since two units power up and the third blinks, the GPU might be faulty. First, unplug and reconnect both sides of the cables (if using a modular PSU). Next, test the GPU in another slot, then try a different GPU.

It wouldn't affect the performance of the system, so you didn't need to keep it.
