The PC will not shut down the display or move into sleep mode when not in use?
Hey, I just changed my monitor from the Acer X34P to the Alienware AW3423DWF. I use the USB ports inside the monitor for my audio and microphone because the cables don’t fit behind the PC. After the switch, my PC won’t turn off the screen or enter sleep mode when it’s idle. The display stays on all the time, which is a big concern since this new monitor is OLED and could burn out quickly.
I’ve tried several things without fixing the problem:
- Ran powercfg /requests and saw 'None' for all options
- No USB controllers connected
- Changed power plan settings and reset to defaults
- Reinstalled display drivers using DDU
- Disabled Nvidia overlay
- Ran DSIM and sfcscan
- Turned off various programs one by one
- Disabled USB Selective Suspend in advanced power settings
- Checked powercfg /energy – it showed multiple USB devices not entering selective suspend, though the note says this won’t stop sleep
- Updated advanced power settings to allow idle/sleep while media plays
- Started PC in safe mode without networking – the screen can turn off
Any other suggestions you could try? Thanks.
Make and model details for audio and microphone?

Testing the audio ports on the back (I/O Panel) of the PC might be difficult, so it's recommended to use a known working USB extension cable. The goal is to check if audio functions properly in full or partial capacity and also ensure the monitor can enter sleep mode.
