I’ve been having issues since upgrading my graphics card and power supply recently. My PC suddenly shuts down without warning when I'm playing demanding games. I upgraded from a 1050 to a 2070 and from a 500w to an 850w power supply. Could you help me figure out what’s going on?

I5-7400, RTX 2070 Super, Corsair RM850 – that’s a solid system. This build offers excellent performance for gaming and other demanding tasks thanks to the combination of components, including the processor, graphics card, and power supply unit. The motherboard provides a stable foundation for these components, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

The issue began three days ago while I was playing Battlefront 2; suddenly my screen went black, the PC fans continued running, and the lights remained on, but a friend reported that I had disconnected from both the game and Discord. This happened again yesterday when I was playing Jurassic Park Evolution, with the same result – everything in my PC shut down.

Ok so while you are gaming monitor your gpu and cpu temperatures. See if they get hot right before it shuts down.

Is there an overlay I can put on or do I have to tab out?

Could be the PSU – it’s a possibility. The fact that your keyboard and mouse aren't working along with the monitor going black while the fans and RGB are still running suggests an issue with power delivery rather than a faulty GPU itself.

Launch HWMonitor. Launch a game. Play the game. Close the game. Take a look at HWMonitor – it’ll display your current temperatures and any peaks that occurred during gameplay. If you don't mind alt-tabbing, you can monitor the temps while playing too.
