It doesn't seem to be a mains power supply problem. It's more likely related to the GPU or motherboard.

But how do you describe the situation where a PC turns off while not in use? Also, it seems the original poster experienced the same problem on an older, entirely different machine.

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I noticed something important that I had missed earlier. If this were related to my electricity grid, it wouldn't clarify how I can trigger shutdowns through specific titles (though I believe it doesn't explain the situation). I've looked into random shutdown discussions on Reddit and found several users describing similar experiences. They often resolved their issues by updating their MOBO or GPU. In fact, these shutdowns seemed to happen only a few times in a year and a half, compared to over 40 instances of this happening to me recently with my current setup. The older PC I used was also quite unreliable, so it's possible the shutdowns were linked to other factors like inadequate thermal management. I was leaning toward a UPS as a potential solution, but now I'm not sure.

Because your shutdown symptoms are coming from various angles, it's hard to identify a single cause. It might be multiple factors working together that result in shutdowns.
From a MoBo perspective, the VRM could be involved. Changing it might lower the number of shutdowns and even eliminate the "on demand" ones you can trigger. However, idle shutdowns might still occur, possibly due to issues with the main power grid.
I haven't encountered GPU being the main reason for shutdowns, except in cases of overheating or insufficient PSU capacity to handle its power needs, including sudden spikes.
In one case, an overheating GPU was the issue; in another, a weak or failing PSU caused the problem.
Still, having a UPS is beneficial—it protects your PC from potential risks on the main electricity grid and is a worthwhile investment.

This might be it—I just tried the PC at my friend's place for a couple of hours and noticed the random shutdowns stopped, at least during the testing time. But the issues caused by specific games still exist, which needs more attention. I think getting the UPS they recommended would be a good next step, and maybe considering a future MMO upgrade. This sounds like a reasonable path if the random shutdowns disappear.

UPS - yes.
MoBo - uncertain, but I'll consider it.
If feasible, attempt using a third one, which is reliable, and a high-quality PSU. This will help confirm if the problem lies with the PSU. Since PC frequently stops during heavy usage (like gaming), around 90% of cases point to a PSU fault.
You might also try using the second GPU (borrowed) to see if shutdowns during load disappear.
MoBo's VRMs are problematic, but not common. Swapping MoBo is quite laborious. Still, after ruling out the third PSU and the second GPU, MoBo becomes the likely culprit.

You might want to opt for a 1000 Watt power supply unit along with a PSU, as it ensures flexibility for future upgrades and delivers ample power with extra capacity. The PSU plays a vital role in your build and needs to be evaluated against the overall power needs of your system. This approach helps you get the best performance without wasting time on troubleshooting. Just a tip from an experienced gamer and builder. All the best and a successful outcome.

Alright, I solved it, it was in fact an issue with my motherboard. Ive swapped to a new one and im finally free of random shut downs

Did you also choose UPS for shipping?
