I’m really sorry for the lengthy message, but I need some advice on what might be behind the problem I’m experiencing with my custom build PC. I tried to provide as much detail as possible because I’m quite overwhelmed.
To give you a clearer picture, two years ago I upgraded several parts of my system. The components I purchased were:
- Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk b450
- CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
- RAM: GSKill Ripjaws 16GB 3200
- PSU: Cooler Master MWE 650W Gold
After replacing the parts, my PC started working normally. However, after a few months of use, it suddenly stopped functioning properly—like a power cut. When I tried to restart, the motherboard lights flickered briefly before shutting down completely and refusing to boot again. As shown in the attached video: pressing the power button caused all components to briefly activate, then immediately shut off. After unplugging the PSU, reconnecting it a few times and plugging it back in, the lights and fans briefly came back on before the problem repeated.
I suspected a faulty PSU first. Since I still had old parts, I replaced the PSU with an older Corsair model. It worked fine with that one, so I sent the new PSU back to the store under warranty. They confirmed it functioned correctly on their end, but couldn’t find any issues with it.
During this time, I used my PC less frequently, spending fewer months in total use. Recently, I moved to a new location and tried setting it up again. The same problem occurred immediately after booting up. I thought maybe overheating was the cause, so I reconfigured the CPU placement and installed the stock AMD cooler. Still, no improvement—except once when the system briefly powered on for about ten seconds before shutting down again.
I also suspected a cooling issue since I hadn’t checked temperatures during operation. I removed the CPU and mounted the standard AMD cooler, but it didn’t help. Then I stripped everything down: placed the motherboard on my desk with only the CPU, one RAM slot, and the PSU power cable connected. Still no success, except for a single instance where it briefly turned on for ten seconds before shutting down. Interestingly, I manually connected the power pins from that point forward.
Next, I suspected the motherboard itself, even though the RGB lights would briefly light up and the system would run normally before shutting down. What followed was frustrating—I ordered a new MSI Tomahawk B550 board and went through several tests with the current setup. Before installing it, I double-checked everything, including connecting the power cable to the PSU, flipping the power switch, and jumping the motherboard’s power pins. Still, the system wouldn’t turn on.
I followed the checklist provided in the forum, but nothing resolved the issue. I’ve tried swapping components, adjusting settings, reconfiguring cables, and even changing the wall outlet. Despite these efforts, the PC continues to abruptly shut down without starting again.
Please let me know what you think or if there’s anything else I should consider.

To the best of my knowledge, there have been no problems with the electricity supply, and I have tested various outlets throughout the house.
Updating, still using the breadboard configuration. The new motherboard (MSI tomahawk B550) with the new CPU (Ryzen 5 5600X) had the same problem a few times. Once it worked in BIOS but never in Windows because that board didn't recognize my NVMe SSD (Samsung EVO 970). I changed both the motherboard and CPU to a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite v2 and a Ryzen 5 5600, but the issue persists—only powers on for a short moment. I'm really confused.
If you ever manage to solve it, I’d be glad to hear it too since I’m facing the same issues. I swapped out the PSU and it worked properly again, but it’s now shutting down once more, behaving like a PSU fault once more. At this stage, I’m considering the CPU might be the cause.
