Hey everyone, I’m getting ready to go over this issue this weekend, and I could really use your insights. To be honest, my English isn’t perfect, so please don’t be too hard on me. My friend has a pre-built HP Omen PC (HP Omen GT13-1707N ZIP i9 11900K). It comes with an i9 11900K processor, a water cooler, a 2TB SSD, 32GB RAM, and an RTX 3080 graphics card. The operating system is Windows. Last Monday, someone accidentally poured about half a liter of tap water over the machine. The PC shut down right away, but he started drying it off immediately. After overnight, he turned it back on the next day—but the PC and monitor stopped responding. He claimed the system was still running, with the CPU, cooler, fans, and RAM functioning, yet no signal was detected.
He mentioned that placing the graphics card in a different PCIe slot didn’t help, since the mainboard only has one slot. When he tried another GPU, it also didn’t connect. He then reinstalled the RTX 3080 and managed to see a game on Thursday afternoon. However, by evening the PC was back down again—no signal at all.
He plans to bring the PC here this weekend so I can inspect everything. I already have most components: power supply, RAM, SSD, graphics card, etc. The only missing piece is an LGA 1200 CPU or board. I’ll test it on his AMD4 board with a Ryzen 7 and stress-test all parts to see which one is affected.
I’m a bit anxious about the power supply, especially since water damage is a concern. I don’t know exactly how much water entered the PSU, but I’d rather not celebrate New Year’s at home. He told me he’d been gaming for a few hours the day before, so maybe it was just a short exposure.

Well... it seems he can't reverse time, so I brought his PC over for a quick check. The 2x 16GB RAM and RTX 3080 GPU are all good. The CPU cooler is fine, but the fan speed fluctuates—slow for three seconds, then max speed, then back to slow again. I suspect the BIOS settings might be the issue. I'll look into it tomorrow. The mainboard is severely damaged—about 99%. He plans to replace it. The CPU should be an i9 11900k, so he needs a LGA 1200 motherboard with a micro ATX chipset. An ATX model would be too large for the HP Omen case. Which one would you recommend and what chipset is best? He uses the PC about 75% of the time and spends the rest on office tasks.
