I'm trying to solve a problem that's been bothering me for a while. My computer suddenly crashes to a black screen and freezes while playing games, even when it's not under heavy load. It happens during casual play as well as intense sessions. Games like Tabletop Simulator, Palworld, and Icarus are affected. I've tried updating drivers, checking power cables, adjusting monitor settings, updating firmware, and even swapped out the RAM and power supplies. The only parts still unexplored are the motherboard and the CPU. When the system freezes, the only way to get it back online is a hard restart. Sometimes I have to disconnect the GPU power connectors and reconnect them to restore functionality. I'm uncertain if the issue lies with the board, the PCIe slot, or the CPU itself. I'm at a loss and really need someone's advice. Please let me know if you have any useful information.

Specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
CPU: i9-13900k
MOBO: ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI D4
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 (Two packs installed for 64 GB total)

Storage: Samsung 870 EVO 500 GB (OS)
SSD/HDD: Samsung 980 PRO SSD 2TB M.2 (Two units)
SSD/HDD: Seagate BarraCude NE-ST8000DM004 8TB 5400 RPM 256 MB Cache 3.5"
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
Power supply: Asus ROG Thor 1200P (bought September 2023)
Case: Corsair 5000x
Operating system: Windows 11
Display: Alienware AW3423DWF (Two units)

You can view the installed RAM here:

I also have a spare pack of this RAM, which was the original in the PC. I’m unsure which is superior, so I decided to keep the new one.

The 1.5k watt recommendation surprised me a lot. Do you have any suggestions on upgrades? I thought my Thor was quite powerful, but the problem continued so I had to return it.

The BIOS version for your motherboard was overlooked. Were the PCB versions for your RAM kits checked?

Sorry, my bio version is 3001.
I'm uncertain about what PCB is or how to locate that information. A simple search didn't yield much, as it appeared in the task manager but wasn't listed on there. I've downloaded Cpu-Z and also don't see a PCB version there... Any advice?

My bios version is 3001. That's the BIOS with microcode 0x12F, which doesn't seem like a degradation problem for your CPU. I'd check if you can find a well-built, higher wattage PSU and test it on your system. If I'm right, please share both RAM kits side by side, take clear photos showing the stickered information, and upload them to a site like Imgur so we can review what you have.
