The PC shuts down unexpectedly when relocating between rooms.
I recently relocated to a new apartment and have been facing issues with my PC. It powers on and boots normally, but will abruptly shut off after roughly five minutes. There is no blue screen or shutdown notification—it simply turns off. Although I understand things can shift during a move, I’m unsure what else to check.
I suspect the power supply isn’t failing because I haven’t noticed the motherboard LEDs going out. Also, my secondary monitor wasn’t recognized, though I don’t think that’s connected to the problem. After some troubleshooting, the second monitor worked on my last boot. Also, during the final shutdown, the case fans increased speed before stopping.
I’ve done the following:
- Removed AIO, cleaned and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU
- Removed RAM and reinserted it securely
- The stick closest to the AIO tube feels fine, but only one audible click is heard while others make two. I plan to try removing and reinserting this one again.
- Removed the GPU and reinstalled it (mainly to see if the second monitor would work)
What should I do next? I feel strongly about rebuilding everything from scratch, but this was my first build and I haven’t handled it in years, so I’m not very confident.
It might not work for you. Someone brought me my PC with an SSD, but I always ask people to place it on their back seat. In this case, it went into the trunk and moved around on the carpet. I had to remove the motherboard battery, let it rest a bit, and then replace it—now it works fine. YMMV. It looks like you might get it to boot, so you could try that trick if needed.
It could be the power supply unit. I’m saying this because I work in technology and I’ve experienced a system that was working well before, but now it won’t boot after moving it to another part of the building. That’s definitely possible.
