The PC shuts down intermittently—could the power supply be faulty?
I'm searching for a new power supply unit suitable for future professional use, specifically for running the Intel Arc B850 or GeForce 30 series. Here are my current specifications:
Asus Strix BF450 motherboard
32GB Cosair RGB RAM
Ryzen 7 3700X at 4200 MHz
Radeon 6600 Ti with 8 GB RAM
28-inch 1080p monitor, 0.5 ms refresh rate, fast IPS
2x 500GB drives, 2 SSD spines
Workstation power supply, 750W Cosair Gold – possibly failing
Recent issue: After a major storm last week, my PC keeps freezing multiple times (5 to 6 times in half an hour), requiring a hard restart. I’m trying a factory reset to check if it’s a driver problem.
I still need a reliable PSU for future professional use, ideally Gold Rating. Upgrading the RAM or graphics card might be possible depending on the CPU type.
My budget is around 100 to 140 yuan. Thanks if you can provide more details.
What is the age of the PSU? It has been heavily used for gaming and video editing. Check the Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer. Either tool might record error codes, warnings, or events around the freezing incidents. Pressing any entry can reveal more information, though it may not always be useful. In any case, there might be additional causes.
I'm exploring whether a tornado could lead to a driver malfunction, focusing on possible hardware issues.
I'm not sure if the PSU is more than five years old; it's a Corsair 750. The writing is in yellow. I've done a full factory restore, but the Radeon Error report still causes the screen to freeze. I'm using an Asus Rog Strix laptop. The issue has been getting worse since the storm. The GPU is around 4 to 5 years old and was installed when we received stimulus checks during the pandemic. It freezes on me while playing games, especially when I switch to Alt tab. Errors appear on my main desktop for streaming and gaming.
