I observed that every Thursday evening after 10pm my computer restarts repeatedly. It happens multiple times, and the issue persists even after the next day. I’m unsure how long this will continue since I usually take a two-hour break afterward. Possible causes could include software conflicts, background processes, or hardware quirks. The recent HDD formatting didn’t resolve it, and putting the device to sleep still triggers the restart. My system runs Windows 8 Pro with an Intel i5 3570k processor, ASRock Z77, Corsair GS700, Kingston HyperX Blu, and 16GB RAM.

It could be an automatic maintenance process or a Windows update.

The display changes color randomly—black, gray, red—or something else entirely. Occasionally I catch a brief sound before it resets back to the boot screen.

It might automatically clean up disk fragments. Consider turning off scheduled defragmentation.

Check if BIOS options exist and see if automatic scans or defragmentation are enabled during startup.

It seems you likely used wake timers before, but they were inactive. I turned them off, and they disappeared.

I reset the BIOS after reformatting the C drive to ensure everything was intact. I haven’t set up automatic virus scans. Defragmenting isn’t something I’ll do right now.
