The PC restarted without a clear explanation.
Hello everyone.
Last time I was browsing YouTube, my computer stopped working for a moment before restarting. There were only a few errors—Kernel 41 and Error 56 in the event viewer, but no BSOD. A system scan detected some damaged Windows files.
I’ve experienced something similar before, but there was a clear RAM-related error. The PC wouldn’t boot at all with those faulty modules, and it turned out one of them wasn’t stable anymore. I replaced them, and they worked fine for a while. Meanwhile, I swapped the power supply, case, and graphics card.
Before that, two issues stood out. First, yesterday I downloaded files from GitHub. While saving them, the computer froze briefly. Second, uninstalling RGB Fusion caused my RGB panel and GPU to become unusable, requiring a full reinstall to fix it. Using CrystalDiskInfo showed one drive at 68% health, while the rest were normal. So far, the system hasn’t rebooted again, but I’m hesitant to make any changes.
Could this be a software issue or something more serious? Should I run a stress test, reinstall Windows, or try another diagnostic tool? I used Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and didn’t find anything unusual. I’m a bit confused. Thanks for your advice.
My current specs:
- Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4
- Intel i5-12600k
- 16GB Patriot Viper 3733 Mhz
- Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti Gaming OC
- Corsair RM850x Shift
- Connected to CyberPower UPS (if applicable)
Yes, I have the most recent bios and drivers, but I suspect there might be a problem. I powered off the computer briefly to ensure all cables were properly connected, yet it still wouldn't start and kept looping indefinitely. Removing the CMOS didn't resolve the issue. Eventually, switching the RAM sticks to the opposite slots resolved the problem. So perhaps the motherboard or processor is faulty? Although it passed all tests before, as I mentioned earlier. Is it safe to use it, or could there be a risk of damage?
