The PC remains unresponsive and fails to transmit data.
Not long ago I assisted my friend in assembling his PC (~2 months prior), and it functioned perfectly. Recently, while he was watching YouTube, the monitor failed to display any signal, though the system kept running, RGB stayed on and fans spun normally. After a restart, he changed the HDMI to DP connection and tested all ports, even switching from his monitor to a TV and checking every source. We removed the CMOS battery, waited four minutes, then reinstalled it. We replaced the RAM one by one, testing each slot carefully. The GPU power cable was reconnected, but nothing changed—fans operated normally and the EVGA 3050 displayed no RGB. There seems to be no visible issue with the components. Without spare parts, we’re unsure what to do next. The diagnostic cost around $120, and I’m worried they might not inspect non-public systems. It’s frustrating; we’re stuck and don’t know what to try. What advice would you give in this scenario? Any suggestions?
When discussing a problem, it’s helpful to share your system details upfront. This allows us to focus more accurately before we reply. As a reminder, I encountered similar issues with my 5900X build occasionally refusing to boot. Sometimes it worked after adjusting GPU, RAM, or connections, while other times it required more effort. Most of the steps I mention have been tried before, but not in the same sequence. Recently, I noticed two factors. First, physical pressure on the GPU, RAM, or cables seemed to resolve the issue temporarily. During one instance where it completely refused, I found the slot latch was misaligned—causing the card to get stuck. Removing the adhesive cover helped, but now I see a black screen after startup, possibly due to the HDMI cable not seating correctly. This might have caused strain on the HDMI port, leading to future concerns. It’s a clear example of how a simple oversight can lead to bigger complications. Updated June 20, 2022 by An0maly_76
Thanks a lot for your reply! I should have shared my specs already—I’ll update the post now. I’ll also share it here: CPU Ryzen 5 5600, GPU EVGA NVIDIA 3050, RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2x8 GB), DDR4-3200 CL16, Storage Samsung 970 Evo Plus, PSU EVGA GD (2019) 700W, 80+ Gold certified ATX. I’m currently trying to re-seat the GPU and will let you know the outcome!
Wow, that's surprising! I should have looked into it more beforehand.
Observing the fans and RGB lights indicates the system has started up successfully. The main concern seems to be the GPU processing output not reaching the monitor. This might point to a GPU issue. You could consider buying a new GPU from Best Buy, testing it, and if it doesn’t work, returning it after a few hours. Good return policies at such stores are helpful. If the problem persists with the new GPU, it could be related to the motherboard or CPU, though these are less likely given the POST status. Another approach is to boot with just one RAM stick and switch to the other if needed.
Wait I can do that?! I'll go out tommorow and purchase a cheap gpu at bestbuy and try it out, and I think you might be totally right, i'll update you! Thank you so much!
Keep in mind that delaying your return can result in a refund check being sent. I learned this the hard way. Generally, I wouldn’t purchase anything from Best Buy for keeps, but this seems like a reasonable workaround as long as you return it within two weeks.
