As described, the new PC gives off a strong plastic odor. I’ve removed all plastic components on the GPU, PSU, and confirmed the CPU cooler was off. After stress testing, temperatures remain around 70°C on everything. Is this typical? Will it cool down over time?
Initially, what seems like a certain odor might not be what it appears to be. Sensitivity to chemical smells varies from person to person. However, new plastic components often develop a noticeable scent over time. Many PC parts and technology retain this smell because they are sealed in packaging, which traps off-gases and slows diffusion. The odor typically diminishes within a few days to weeks. Clearing any residue should accelerate the process. The likely source is probably thermal pads; running the device hot could speed up the removal.
Interesting. Is it still really bad? Is there a chance you bought some component *really* cheap? Maybe a set of fans?
