My computer began shutting down unexpectedly while playing games about a month ago. Now it also stops randomly during light activities such as streaming on YouTube. After powering it off, the lights and fans briefly activate for less than a second, then the system fails to restart, remaining silent and inactive even after hours. I had to unplug it and then plug it back in to get it to turn on again. Occasionally, even after these steps, it won’t start and I have to wait a while before trying once more. This behavior might indicate a protective feature from the motherboard or power supply unit.

Event Viewer does not display any errors or warnings prior to the crashes. I cleaned and reconnected all cables, checked them for damage, and inspected them carefully without any signs of burn. I also tried connecting it to different power outlets in various circuits, but the issue continues.

I performed stress tests on the CPU and GPU using OCCT, running both at full load for an hour without any issues. The temperature stayed around 60°C during maximum load, suggesting overheating isn’t the cause. I scanned the SSD with Kingston Manager (showing 91% health) and the RAM for errors, but found nothing.

It seems the problem could relate to the PSU or motherboard, though I don’t have a spare part for testing. Should I update the BIOS and firmware? I’m concerned about potential issues during an update. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are my specifications built in 2020:
- Motherboard: Asus Prime H310I-Plus R2.0
- CPU: i5-9400F
- CPU Cooler: Masterliquid lite 120
- GPU: GTX 1660
- RAM: ADATA Primer DDR4 8GB x2
- SSD: Kingston SSD 1TB
- PSU: Cooler Master MWE 550W Gold

Hey there,
These signs suggest a PSU problem. Do you have one? If not, you can borrow one or bring it to a nearby repair shop for a replacement. It should cost around 20£.

Solution found, the issue was with the power supply unit. It's functioning properly now with the new one.
