Problem: Evga gold 650w Ryzen 5600x Current: 3080 strix Gigabyte x570 elite wifi Previous: 3070 oc (gigabyte) Asus tuf x570 pro wifi Issue: System fails to boot with GPU in the top PCIe lane. This occurs on both configurations. Key details: New Mobo/gpu arrived today; BIOS updated since it won’t start without the update. I run extensions via power cables, tried disconnecting CPU power and restarting, but no boot. Based on this, the PC is fine when 24-pin connects, but not when CPU power is connected—so it’s likely the same. Meaning: Bottom slot with CPU power cable boots; unplugging gives no boot. Top slot also boots nothing. Two different motherboards and two GPUs involved. I can’t return or get warranty help—I’m in a third-world country and can’t get an IGU. I can try one more time with my 850w bronze if you think it might help, but I haven’t tested it today. I’m almost done and feel like I might lose the desktop. Please share any advice or info you have.
Hi there! Start by powering on the machine without any add-ons and ensure the GPU is connected properly in the top PCIe slot with all cables attached. Check the PCIe slot for dirt, dust, or debris that might prevent good contact or misalignment. If booting still fails and only works in the lower slot, the issue likely lies with the motherboard. Since returns or exchanges aren't an option, you may need to try the lower slot, which should work fine as both slots support PCIe 4.0 16x lanes. Good luck! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*
You're questioning the layout details again. I understand you've been using the top 16x lanes and the bottom 4x, and you're considering staying that way despite potential performance concerns. I'll keep this in mind for tomorrow's review.
Absolutely! Take a break and observe the results. Using that PCIe slot should not affect performance according to ASUS' guidelines. You might notice an unusual look inside your desktop, but it's not a problem. Don't let disappointment spoil your gaming experience. Rest well and stay tuned! (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
The Gigabyte spec sheet is unclear and difficult to read, but it matches the details found on Newegg and Amazon. All X570 boards feature 24 PCIe lanes organized for compatible devices, ensuring every PCIe and M.2 slot uses full-size setups to accommodate the range of hardware. For a better comparison, check both boards tomorrow and run benchmarks to see how performance varies with different PCIe configurations.
I’ll try to finish this by the weekend since I’m running low on energy, but I’ll dedicate my time then to fixing issues and updating the post. Appreciate your support!
