I have a computer that stopped working almost a week ago. I think the motherboard is the issue. There are no power signals, no fan noise, nothing at all. I tested the PSU on another system and it started up. I tried a different PSU for the problematic machine, but the same symptoms appeared. I eliminated the PSU, RAM, drives, CPU, and GPU—still nothing. It seems the motherboard is dead. I left it outside in the case for a few days, removing the CMOS thinking it needed to be replaced. Recently, I tried connecting the old PSU directly to the motherboard with the CPU and fan, and it worked. Today I’m wondering if the problem might have resolved itself on its own. I put it back in the case, set it up, and turned it on—it still didn’t work. I’m unsure if the motherboard is dead or if the CPU is the issue. What should I do next?

Did you utilize the wires from each PSU or those already connected to the motherboard during your tests?

I chose the wires from each PSU since neither one is modular; both are permanently connected.

Examine your motherboard carefully for any burn marks on the solder tracks<|pad|>, burnt resistors, or other dark spots that might explain the issue. It's possible the motherboard was its final attempt before failing, which you already suspect.
