I recently enhanced my PC with a new motherboard (MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi), CPU (Ryzen 7 5800X3D), some RAM (now 8 by 32 by 8 by 32, totaling 82 GBs of G.Skill RAM, same speed and voltage), an M.2 2TB Samsung 970 EVO SSD, and a new cooler (NZXT Kraken X63). Initially everything worked smoothly until the “Windows failed to start. A recent hardware change.. etc.” message appeared. First I verified the RAM was correctly installed. Then I attempted to install Windows on another drive, but that also failed—especially when M.2 or SATA drives were involved, and even the legacy CSM boot didn’t show up. I tried updating the BIOS, but that didn’t help either. I reinstalled Windows on my original 256 GB SATA SSD, keeping the old Windows folder intact. It seems I’ve exhausted all options, which is frustrating since I rely on this PC for work. I’m wondering if the motherboard might be the issue, though I’m new to building PCs and can’t easily judge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You restored Windows on your storage device. I can help you by clearing as many variables as possible. If your graphics card is integrated with the CPU, I recommend removing everything except one drive that already has Windows installed, plus one RAM module, and attempt to boot into Windows or reinstall it. Then add components one at a time.

Thank you! I've already attempted it, but it still isn't working.

Hi! That didn't work as expected. Let me know if you'd like to try something else.
