The PC fails to start unexpectedly.
PC details: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-A motherboard, Corsair RM750x power supply, AMD Ryzen 5800X, RTX 3080, Evga 3080 RGB Pro, Samsung 970 Evo plus Samsung 870 Evo. Very little background in about six months. Until recently, everything ran smoothly. Around a week ago, after starting up, my PC froze completely after roughly 20 seconds. I checked several times but it didn’t restart. I thought the SATA cables might be bent, so I fixed them and it worked fine again. That changed today. After booting, it shut down after about five seconds. I suspected the SATA cables again, adjusted them slightly and tried once more, but now the PC wouldn’t even power on. The PSU emitted a single click sound before cutting out completely. I unplugged everything except the 24 ATX pin and restarted, which showed power. Connected the CPU pin and it functioned normally with all LEDs green. When trying the graphics card, it booted but crashed again after five seconds. All SATA cables were plugged in, yet the PC wouldn’t start. Only the PSU made one brief click. I disconnected everything except the 24 ATX pin and still nothing happened. The motherboard displayed a red LED near the CPU connector indicating it wasn’t connected—a situation I hadn’t seen before (though maybe a glowing LED meant power was present). I’ve tried everything, reconnected cables, verified connections, but the issue remains. I’m guessing the problem is either with the PSU (possibly insufficient 750W) or the motherboard itself, but I’m unsure how to confirm.
Thanks in advance. I have a functional RTX 2070 and another power supply unit. I’m worried my 750W PSU might not be sufficient for the 3080. I’ll also switch out my SATA cables. I’ll keep you updated.
