Hi, I tried various BIOS settings to make my SSD appear in the boot menu, but now it’s not working. I adjusted a PCIe configuration in the advanced options and switched it to x8, but the PC won’t load into BIOS. I also tried inserting my original flash drive for booting, yet nothing happened. If anyone knows how to reset it back to normal BIOS settings, please let me know. I have an Asus Prime Z790, and nothing seemed wrong before—just wanted to see if Windows would boot from the SSD.

Disconnect the power supply and take out the CMOS battery. Or, if you don't want to remove the GPU, leave the PSU connected and short the two pins in the lower motherboard area using a jumper or screwdriver.

Check if you remove the battery and attempt to boot again. Clarify what components are required on the motherboard during this process. Also, confirm whether you have the GPU installed.

Typically, to refresh the BIOS configuration memory, you shut down, connect the clear CMOS pins on the board, restart with a button press, and the system usually won’t boot. Once that’s done, remove the CMOS clear jumper and power up again. If your CPU includes a built-in GPU, you might connect to the onboard graphics port and check if it displays properly.

It functioned successfully. You don't have to shut down the system to reset the CMOS using the jumper. On newer boards, it might not work without a power supply. Removing the battery is recommended—turn off the PSU, let the battery sit for a few minutes, then reattach it and power on.

It worked perfectly, thank you. I mainly reset everything to the default and everything was fine. During reassembly, I noticed the PC wouldn’t power on with the power button. After turning off the PSU and testing a few times, it started normally again. I’m thinking about leaving it on for the rest of the day just in case.

Fun! It seems adjusting the BIOS settings didn’t fix the issue, and keeping it on still doesn’t seem to help.
