when my 0,5 ghz overclock became unstable, i gradually increased the voltage by 0,05 volts at a time. with each step up, the computer became more stable until around 1,5 volts. then it would power on for just half a second before shutting down. i attempted to reset the cmos and swapped in my old x6 1055t. i also tried using the same 8350 in another pc, but it didn't turn on, which might be unrelated.

If your VRM can't handle the voltage you chose, it will fail the BIOS power test and shut down. You can try resetting the BIOS to its default settings using a jumper, or remove the MB battery and start again. Another option is to add heatsinks to the VRM transistors if they're missing, hoping this resolves the issue. I also cut the blue PWM wire to the fan for better cooling, but usually it only helps briefly. This has given me enough time to restart everything. AMD CPUs tend to be more sensitive to heat than Intel CPUs from the same period. Perhaps letting it cool completely will allow it to run long enough to fix the problem.

William P suggests checking if the VRM can handle the voltage you chose; if not, the BIOS power test will fail and the system will shut down. One solution is to reset the BIOS to its default configuration using a jumper, or remove the MB battery and restart.
