The PC boots without a display port but works with an HDMI connection.
Hello, I shared a problem about my monitor that confused me for some time. A few months back, when I turned on my computer it would display but wouldn’t boot into Windows. The monitor was on, yet the screen stayed black and the mouse/keyboard stopped working. I had to press the reset button and try again multiple times before it would load properly. Recently, after moving back from college, I didn’t set everything up correctly. I connected my PC to an older ASUS monitor via HDMI for now, which worked fine. After a while, I switched to the better monitor I’d been using and the issue returned. This older monitor was always connected through DisplayPort. System details: Ryzen 7 2700x, EVGA 2080, Super FTW3 hybrid, Patriot viper, 16GB, Asus x570, WD 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD. Thank you.
Consider using an extra HDMI cable and test it out. During the problem, you notice the monitor appears black while the keyboard shuts off but the system starts up. Once it boots, does the ASUS logo appear before it turns dark? Have you experienced the Windows boot looping in circles before?
It seems like the connection might be faulty, whether it's on the screen or the graphics card, or possibly the cable isn't working properly.
I just tested it again and got the same outcome. Thanks for waiting.
I used the same method and got the same outcome. The system starts normally with the ASUS display and the BIOS entry options appear. Once activated, the screen turns black and the peripherals power down completely. I don’t see the Windows loading at all. Occasionally after the screen disappears, it moves to the troubleshoot menu. There are a few vague options like continue, reset, shutdown, and troubleshoot. Apologies for the slow reply.
It seems the screen could be the problem. Does it fall under warranty? Also, could we try it on another computer? Don’t worry, life can be unpredictable. I’m heading out this afternoon and won’t be available until Monday.
Yes, you can try swapping GPUs to check if performance remains consistent across different display ports.
You can change the GPU. Testing it on a different machine might work, but swapping it into your PC is often necessary for full functionality.
