The PC becomes unresponsive during specific gameplay sessions.
The issue involves frequent freezing after loading games like 2042 or Elden Ring, lasting about five minutes. The screen freezes completely, and the system refuses to accept any inputs until the power button is pressed and the device restarts. This has occurred intermittently for over a year. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? I'm really hoping someone can help me resolve this.
System details: Intel i7-9700K processor running at 3.60GHz, 32 GB RAM total (2 x 16 GB DDR4), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card, M.2 SSD storage included.
I also performed a health assessment using the Intel diagnostic tool, which indicated everything was normal. I ran the Windows RAM scanner as well and it showed no issues. I’ve heard about Windows 10 causing these kinds of problems, but I’m not sure how to verify that without a full reinstall.
It seems the problem likely came from a damaged PCI cable in the power supply you replaced, which resolved once it was fixed.
I found the answer by testing different approaches. Before replacing the PSU, I verified it was indeed the issue.
Numerous troubleshooting steps were required. I must also note that the cable was deteriorating, which indicated a failing PSU and insufficient power delivery to the system. Upgrading to a higher-capacity PSU resolved the problem entirely. If you encounter this issue, I recommend trying a new PSU and returning it if it doesn’t help. I purchased one from Best Buy for testing; after confirming it worked, I sent back the original and received the replacement.
