The PC becomes unresponsive during OS installation attempts.
Hey everyone, I recently got some used and brand-new parts for my home server. After everything arrived, I installed Windows 10 to run benchmarks. During setup the PC would freeze and lock up—mouse wouldn’t move, keyboard wouldn’t type even when I typed "num lk" to turn it on. Proxmox installation worked the same way. It seems to run fine in BIOS without crashing.
Components: CPU – Threadripper 1950x, RAM – 4×16GB Crucial EUDIMM, SSD – Samsung 970 EVO Plus (functional in other PCs), PSU – old 650W I have, RAM swapped, removed all four DIMMs, used one Gskill 16GB stick. I can boot into BIOS without issues, but OS installation fails.
Is it my motherboard or CPU that’s causing this problem? How can I confirm if there are no other X399 parts left to test? Thanks ahead!
Unable to locate the screwdriver for the Threadripper, can I use standard ones to remove the CPU? The BIOS is up to date, but previous versions didn’t work either. I tried the older models, but they froze during installation. Once I reached BIOS settings, it would lock up when trying to load or write data while the CPU was active.
