Hello forum,
I've been attempting to overclock my Evga gtx 970 ftw for a week now. I set the core to +120MHz and memory to +520MHz with a power target of 110%. In Unigine Heaven, my score improved by about 220 (roughly 2200) and I gained around 10 FPS (about 87). Furmark reported stable performance at 64 degrees max with a 2 FPS boost. When benchmarking Metro 2033 Redux with their tool and other games using fraps, I saw no improvements whatsoever. I've also tried adjusting the voltage to +25 without any gains. Even when reducing the overclock, results remained unchanged. What might be causing these issues?

Zemmex111 :
Are you still using the fx 8350? If yes, it might be limiting the gpu performance in those games. Overclocking the cpu won’t help if the cpu is the main bottleneck.
Yes, I’m still using it. Would upgrading the cpu’s overclock from 4.2 to 4.8 make a difference or is this CPU a poor fit for the gpu?
It should definitely help in games that are slowed by the cpu, like physics in firestrike. Your motherboard and cooler should handle a 4.8ghz overclock easily. A 1.4- to 1.45v VCORE should be sufficient.
It’s not necessarily a bad choice unless you recently purchased that CPU and motherboard, then I think you might have wasted your money on something else for a gaming setup. The 8350 is better suited with a 970...

Hello forum,
I've been working on overclocking my Evga gtx 970 ftw for a week now. I set the core to +120MHz and memory to +520MHz with a power target of 110%. Even when I reduced my overclock settings, results remained unchanged.

Hello.
Please confirm you don’t have VSync enabled? 😀
Anyway, performance differences between games mean you can’t always expect the same results from an overclock. Simple as that.

Are you currently utilizing the fx 8350? If yes, it's probable that it's causing some GPU limitations in those games. Overclocking the GPU won't improve your performance if the CPU is the main constraint.

I'm still using it. Would increasing my CPU overclock from 4.2 to 4.8 help or would this CPU not be suitable for the GPU?

Hello forum,
I've been experimenting with overclocking my Evga gtx 970 ftw for the past week. Even when lowering my overclock settings, results remained unchanged.
What might be causing this?
Please clarify if you don’t have VSync enabled. 😊
Anyway, performance differences between games mean you can’t guarantee improvements every time. Simple as that.
No, VSync is usually off during gameplay.

We're still using the fx 8350, but it might be limiting the GPU performance in those games. Overclocking the CPU won't help if the GPU is the bottleneck. Turning the CPU overclock from 4.2 to 4.8 could make a difference, especially for games where the CPU slows things down. The GPU should handle a 4.8GHz overclock easily, and a cooler with a 1.4-1.45v VCORE should work well. Unless you recently upgraded your CPU and motherboard, this CPU choice isn't necessarily bad, but it might not be the best for a gaming setup. The 8350 works fine with a 970 chipset in most cases.
