I recently increased my computer's overclocking level, but it now freezes unexpectedly. It usually starts working during work hours or at night, yet when I try to use it, the screen fails to appear. I review my download history and notice it freezes a few hours beforehand. This has happened about three times now, without any error alerts, and it occurs randomly—sometimes for hours, other times just briefly while tasks run. It works well for days but freezes intermittently. After two weeks, it functions normally again. All drivers are up to date, and the BIOS has been updated. This configuration is roughly two months old and has already undergone adjustments. This is the maximum overclock I've achieved. Here’s what I have set:
I7980- OC'd to 4.425
24GB DDR3 2000MHz at 1770MHz
CPU vCore- 1.4v
Mem- 1.7v
everything else is left at auto (timings, other voltages), though manual tweaks didn’t help. It runs stably with LinX at 100 passes, Prime95 for 16 hours without issues, but freezes randomly—sometimes idling, other times during random tasks. It works well for days then stops. Mem tests passed three times. I adjusted the memory voltage from 1.68v to 1.7v manually and haven’t seen a BSOD since. Do you think it should be increased further? Should I adjust the timings more in the auto setting? The memory timings are 10-12-10-10 for the rated 9-10-9-9. Thanks for your assistance.

It seems you're suggesting a slight adjustment from 4.425, which could help reduce the mem voltage and improve performance at lower values like 4.25-4.3. The advice is to aim for a stable setup with voltages around 1.6-1.65v and adjust the 1.4 setting slightly down. Stress testing is recommended, and you should run up to 20 passes with 8 threads max memory. Your hardware and BIOS settings might be contributing to the issue, so sharing those details could help identify a fix.

I recently encountered an issue after overclocking my Xeon X5650 to 4ghz. The stress test in Aidia64 completed successfully (10 minute test), but the system would freeze during regular desktop activities. Raising the voltage slightly resolved the problem.
