The original resolution for Knights of the Old Republic is 640x480.
I own this IBM Think centre equipped with an Intel 82945g express family chipset. It seems to be integrated. The system runs a Pentium 4 at 1.60ghz with 3GB of RAM. I'm just testing it on a PC. I already have a gaming PC that can handle the latest titles in high settings.
What I'm aiming for is to push all the optimal configurations this machine can support. Two of the games I'm testing are Morrowind and KOTOR—both of my favorites.
Morrowind performs well at 640x480, offering a noticeable FPS improvement and remaining playable even at 800x600, though there are occasional frame drops. The chipset lacks shader support, so I'm not using shaders for effects like water. It appears to support only version 1.0, but it's still functional.
KOTOR, on the other hand, only allows a minimum resolution of 800x600. However, the FPS is extremely low even at that setting. Playing at the lowest resolution feels like a big improvement, and I hope medium textures could help. Those low-resolution textures work in some areas but are poor elsewhere.
I've already explored the .ini files, compatibility settings, and color modes without success. I really wish there was a way to run the game at 640x480. Thanks for your help, and I'm curious why this resolution wasn't supported—it's a 2003 title.
Found the fix. It uses an ultra-wide screen trick with a program called Flawless Widescreen. Now I can play 640x480. I was surprised to see this toaster handle Morrowind and Kotor. Initially I thought I wouldn't be able to launch the games, but I forgot about the 0xc000005 crash in Morrowind which forced it to set a 1gb paging file. This works on Windows 10 32bit with emulators running. Xebra performs well in mode 2 (slightly faster), everything else is normal.
