I recently purchased an OEM key with the hope of upgrading my unactivated Windows. However, when trying to change the key, it shows an error indicating it’s not the correct code. The only solution I have is to perform a clean install of Windows 10 and use the key from there, but I’m concerned about losing all my data on my PC. I still possess the OEM key, but I’m curious if there’s a way to upgrade without erasing my files or reinstalling the operating system.
Maybe the code you received was fake or misplaced. Also, it’s likely you need the Home edition key; otherwise, a Pro key won’t work.
This just occurred to me a while back, but I already knew about it, so I didn’t have to pay anything.
It's possible I'm mistaken, but you might need to reinstall Windows after purchasing a pro key. Since you bought it from Kinguin, phone activation is likely required.
I also tried this many times. You'll need to install Windows 10 Pro to use that key. Based on how you obtained your current setup, you might already have the choice on the same installation disk or you'll have to create a new one. I haven't faced any issues in my experience. I've completed three installs from kinguin.
It seems the provided key might not be valid. Consider requesting a new one from the seller. This issue arises when purchasing illegitimately.
