Hello, I'm dealing with an old Samsung laptop running an Intel i3 2310M. When idle, temperatures climb to around 90°C within minutes. Running any apps causes rapid overheating and shutdowns. I've reapplied thermal paste, verified the heatsink mounting and fan operation, but the issue persists. I updated the BIOS and reinstalled Windows, even tried Linux, yet it still gets hot. I suspect a failing CPU might be the cause—since it's a PGA socket, a replacement could help—but I want to be sure first. Personally, newer models work well and hold more value. I understand this might seem emotional, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It seems the thermal paste is nearly used up or has failed completely, so it’s best to purchase fresh thermal paste.

Check the message first, that’s their initial attempt. Are you able to detect the exact voltage the CPU is drawing to confirm it’s not just increasing unnecessarily? It looks like you’ve addressed the typical diagnostic steps.

I'll review it later after work. From what I recall, the voltage was slightly higher than expected, which is why I explored undervolting, though I couldn't find a method to implement it.

Here’s a clear list of the actual laptop models:

- Recent Samsung laptop
- Older HP models
- Previous Mac models

Feel free to note them for reference.

I’ve seen all these laptops before, just three didn’t belong to HP. Two were Dell—one worked well, the other wasn’t. One was Acer, and it ended up being e-waste.

It seems there might be some confusion. The details about the model and the replacement don't match what I recall. Could you clarify? I'm trying to note this for accuracy.

Absolutely, I didn't catch that. It might also relate to the processor since it's quite outdated.

It seems you're asking whether the issue lies with the device or the information stored. Likely a simple misunderstanding.
