The old computer stopped working and won't upload.
My computer stopped working during a game and won’t boot up now. It’s around seven years old but has been fine until recently. Here are the details: Motherboard model, PSU brand, CPU type, GPU info, RAM specs, storage drives, and power status. Everything seems to be in place except for the fact that when I turn it on, nothing happens—no fans, no LEDs, and the HDD won’t spin. Pressing the power button doesn’t trigger any sound or action, even after a short break. The PSU still powers peripherals like my keyboard and mouse, but there are no obvious issues with the motherboard. I noticed no smoke or unusual odors when it failed, though the interior is quite dusty. Could you help me figure out what’s wrong? Thanks a lot.
Older devices might experience unusual hardware issues. Are you receiving a postcode or is the system failing when it starts?
It seems like the device isn't responding at all. Just pressing the button doesn't do anything. I've tried taking out all the external devices, but nothing has changed. It didn't show any issues before it stopped working.
Post occurs prior to startup, works regardless of operating system, and stores information on the motherboard. When it fails, you’ll see codes—beeps, lights, or a digital display (rare and costly). Once upon a time, everything relied on beeps; now many boards use lights without speakers. Budget models still use beeps but require an external speaker. If post is present but no boot happens, likely a driver, storage device, or power supply issue exists. The PSU itself can also fail, especially older units that degrade and may affect other components. Historically, a 10-year-old machine with a fresh PSU should have its PSU swapped out, as replacing it early prevents further damage.
It makes sense it's my PSU, yet it seems to supply enough power for the keyboard, mouse, and mic too. The power LED is lit on the board, but not any others. I suspect I misstated something. It’s failing to post, let alone boot. When it doesn’t post, there are no lights or beeps at all.
It seems the issue hasn't caused any major damage yet, especially with the 5v section working. The flutter could be worsening, though it's not the most probable part to fail. If it doesn't work out, you might see a postcode error. It looks like you're getting a power light—without postcodes, the motherboard that creates them could be having problems.
