Hey there! (I really don’t know where else to go... I’ve tried a lot but nothing worked...) I’m just starting out with personal server hosting and got tired of paying such high monthly fees for running servers. So I decided to buy my own small server/PC. I chose the Fujitsu Esprimo Q556/2 (D3403-U1x). What’s the issue? Why did I join this forum? Well, my PC is well-built with an I5-7500 CPU, 16GB RAM, and a 267GB SSD. The OS is Ubuntu Linux 24.04.2, but the BIOS is from 2017—version 1.5.0, last updated in 2024. I also have another HDD with Windows 10 Home 22H2 installed. I tried updating the BIOS from 2017 to 2024, but it keeps saying access denied and returns code 1037. Even Fujitsu’s support site is taking too long. What am I doing wrong? Sorry for all the details... I’m just trying to fix the BIOS update process. Thanks for your help!

Intel FPT is available for download. It includes tools to bypass flash protection, making it accessible through the System Tools folder in Me. The recommended setup involves using a bootable MS-DOS USB drive with Rufus. Place Intel FPT.exe and related files alongside the BIOS file. For flashing, create a bootable USB with the correct commands—swap fptw64.exe for fpt.exe if needed. This method works well for older systems like the Z97X SOCC when using the BIOS. If issues persist, consider desoldering and reprogramming the chip with a Ch341A, ensuring you back up the original BIOS beforehand.

FPT and DOS are unfamiliar terms for you, but I'm willing to learn them first. I also have my own solder and flux, using them for hobby projects to modify small components and build something unique. However, I don't have the exact location of things like the BIOS chip.

A dip switch works, yes. Sometimes PC fans speed up or make loud noises unexpectedly without any changes being made. You're looking for a way to start the system from a cold state and think upgrading the BIOS might help.

Thats the software to update the bios. Not the bios itself. Check your temps this system is well old enough to have dried up thermal paste, small dust forming mats in the cooler and also doesnt help that its a mini pc which means cooling will always be mediocre. This is a normal desktop computer and those features are basicallt custom built pc/actual server system locked. Especially on office machines like this one to prevent people from using it like you want to so they get a proper server for this stuff.

Looking for a dedicated setup with limited resources—just a small server needing around 2GB RAM, max 4GB, and under 30GB storage.
